Well, thanks to the IMC, an ore mining, and processing plant in Russia is experiencing increased security thanks to the license plate recognition software and intelligent video technology. After the IMC system was installed, theft of construction and combustive-lubricating materials has been reduced, and the data received from the extensive video network is being used in cases of suspected fraudulent activities. They have even been able to automate their reporting system which has been a bonus for the plant’s security services.
This is only one example of how the IMC can improve the mining industry. The mining industry has not always been at the forefront when it comes to technology. However, with advances such as artificial intelligence, deep learning, and machine learning, it is quickly catching up. And the ways these technologies are being implemented in the mining industry are very beneficial. Some of these benefits include automating mining operations to increase throughput and production, detecting threats such as unusual vehicle or personnel activity, predictive maintenance and real-time notifications to the local authorities in case of emergencies or signs of trouble.
Isn’t it about time that mining is also driven by data to reduce risks to operators, miners and maintenance crews? Or that systems like the IMC are used to make mining eco-friendlier by monitoring ecological parameters like groundwater, temperature or ventilation changes? We think so.
